NEW HYDROLOGICAL WARNING TYPE FROM THE INSTITUTE OF METEOROLOGY AND WATER MANAGEMENT SINCE MAY

The Institute Of Meteorology And Water Management – National Research Institute has introduced a new type of hydrological warning – hydrological drought warning* From 1 May 2020 on, such warnings will be developed and issued in the period from 1 May through 31 October. The change is linked to the increasing drought hazard in Poland.

The warnings will be published on the Institute Of Meteorology And Water Management – National Research Institute websites and at www.stopsuszy.imgw.pl website.

The legal basis is established in Art. 378 (4) item 3 of the Water Law Act of 20 July 2017 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 310, as amended) and item 3 of the appendix to the Ordinance of the Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation on warnings, forecasts, messages, bulletins and yearbooks of the State Hydrological and Meteorological Service and the State Hydrogeological Service of 28 June 2019 (item 1215).

*Hydrological drought is the period of reduced surface water resources relative to the long-term average situation. Hydrological drought typically forms another stage of intensifying atmospheric and agricultural drought.
