DROUGHT IN POLAND. HOW DO WE COUNTERACT IT? BRIEFING OF THE MINISTER MAREK GRÓBARCZYK AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL WATER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

During today’s (July 25th) press briefing at the Vistula River, Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation has recalled that the current low water levels and periodic floods have resulted from long-term negligences in the Polish water management.

Thanks to the Retention Development Programme, implemented by the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, it will be possible to efficiently counteract both droughts and floods. Implementation of the programme is planned for the period of next 7 years. The investments will be financed at the amount of PLN 14 billion from the new budget perspective of the European Union.

Przemysław Daca, the President of the National Water Management Authority was present at the meeting and said that the authority is already implementing a series of investments, the aim of which is both drought counteracting as well as flood protection. The ‘Drought stop!’ programme is the flagship project of the National Water Management Authority. Its implementation is integrated with the Retention Development Programme and with the investment plans of the National Water Management Authority.
