Water intended for human consumption

Water intended for human consumption means:

(a) any water in its original state or after treatment intended for drinking, cooking, preparation for food or other domestic purposes, irrespective of its origin and whether it is supplied from distribution networks, tanks or in bottles or containers;

(b) any water used by any food-production enterprise for manufacturing, processing, preservation or marketing the products or substances intended for human consumption, if competent national authorities are not certain that the quality of water cannot affect the wholesomeness of the food products in its finished form; (Source: COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 98/83/EC of 3 November 1998)
